You’ll want to arrive at your destination feeling semi-normal so that you can enjoy your time away.

But how to fight jet lag? What are some of the tips to help you out?

To put it simply, jet lag is a form of fatigue, which can cause, confusion, fuzziness and disorientation which are caused by extensive air travel that crosses a number of time zones. Moving across zones can also affect your indigestion and bowel movements too.

One of the many symptoms you can experience is broken sleep once you reach your destination. Like a newly born baby, your body may confuse your days and nights. It could take a number of days to reset your body to the new time zone.

One of the worst parts of travelling to the other side of the world is having to deal with jet lag. Unfortunately you can’t avoid it.

Jet lag symptoms could could make you less aware of your surroundings, which may be a safety issues when you are in an unfamiliar location.

You may also experience dehydration with jet lag. This can make you more susceptible getting ill, which would ruin any holiday or business trip.

How to Deal With Jet Lag?

  • Make sure you are not stressed as knowing you are free to relax will help improve your mood. Stress can contribute to jet lag, so can exhaustion.
  • Don’t start your travels tired or hangover this will only make the jet lag. Also avoid Coffee.
  • Go for a walk, run or get some other exercise prior to your trip, and after you have arrived. This can help you to avoid sickness, and it can help your body adjust to the time changes you will be facing. Exercise will also helps your body deal with the stress of travelling.
  • On your flight do some stretches, go for a walk up and down, even stand in the isle for a little will and stretch out your legs.
  • If you are sick, perhaps with the flu or a cold, it might be a good idea to postpone the trip as long as possible. This way you will enjoy your trip more, and also not pass on the sickness to other travelers.
  • If you must travel, consider wearing a mask to protect other travelers. Be sure to bring medications along to treat your illness, as it may be difficult to find your specific medications once you have reached your destination.
  • Take into account which way you are flying and what time of day your are flying. Some say flying east is more exhausting than flying west, or that it’s better to fly in the day than at night. Choose which you think suits yourself best.
  • Water Water Water, drink plenty of fluids to avoid becoming dehydrated. Alcohol will not help, no will sugary drinks.
  • Dehydration can cause blood pressure issues, nausea and dizziness. Left for too long and untreated dehydration can have serious consequences like coma, seizures and sometimes death, due to the blood not being able to carry oxygen around to your muscles, brain and other organs.

  • Dress comfortably for travelling, loose pants, comfortable shoes, compression sox, travel pillow, loose shirt, a large scarf or light jacket.
  • As soon as you get onto your plane change your watch to your destinations time.

  • Eat light healthy meals.
  • Take some healthy snacks on the plane.
  • Other things which may help, soothing music, eye masks, a neck pillow, take your shoes off and get really comfortable on the flight.
  • When you have arrived at your destination, get some fresh air and melatonin from sunlight.
  • Establish a normal bedtime routine, go to bed at bedtime in the new timezone, assimilate into the new zone.
  • If you are traveling through a number of time zones, don’t make a tight schedule for when you arrive at your destination. Give yourself a couple of days to adjust.
